momo hört zu e.V. is a young non-profit initiative working for a culture of listening and appreciation in Germany.
Our team brings together people from many different professional backgrounds. Right now, almost 40 volunteer listeners give their time at the ZUHÖRRAUM at Stephansplatz 2 in Munich, and many others contribute pro bono. The ZUHÖRRAUM is open to everyone and free of charge. Anyone may come – even just for a complimentary espresso or a glass of water.
Before we developed our MOMO training, we offered the I HEAR YOU workshop – for example at Joblinge Munich, as part of the wider programme. We have also shared our values in workshop formats at TU München, LMU, Caritas, MAGs, at the KU congress, at the dasmaximum museum and elsewhere.
Would you like to become a listener? Or to support us with your skills? Then please get in touch!

We are all MOMO, and together we breathe life into our shared ZUHÖRRAUM at Stephansplatz in Munich. We all listen without any agenda, without judgement and with empathy, and we gladly give our time.
MOMO. Seen. Heard. Loved.

In my earlier working life as a primary school teacher, relationship grows through careful, attentive listening. Understanding and new perspectives then open up on their own. How simple and how wonderful.
„Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.“ (Stephen R. Covey)

Communication and language are the ground of our being with and for one another. My aim, in work and in life, is to communicate authentically – and so to express emotions, feelings and rational thought simply, lightly, openly and honestly.
„Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.“ (Viktor Frankl)

In my work as a psychologist / psychotherapist (in training), I want to give people space to be gentle with themselves – and through that, to relate to others too. Listening connects.
„Only those who truly listen will grasp much of what is left unsaid.“

Listening instead of looking away – that is my aspiration as a journalist. And as a person I am convinced: listening is a revolutionary act. Listening creates the feeling of being heard, and with it the ground for dialogue, for connection and for change – and, in the end, for our democracy, which only comes to life when we listen to one another and talk with one another. Let’s all become better listeners!
„Listening is the art of opening yourself to the world.“, Bernhard Pörksen

Physician, chair holder and director of the Institute for Integrative Health Care and Health Promotion (IGVF) at the University of Witten/Herdecke. Researcher into mindfulness, health, contentment and connectedness. In search of meaning in medicine. Moved by the possibility of finding healing and health within the self – of becoming an inner home for oneself and for others: being-there, encounter and relatedness are the key.
„Listening helps!“

Researcher at the Institute for Integrative Health Care and Health Promotion (IGVF) at the University of Witten/Herdecke, and coordinator of the project „The art of listening“. As an epidemiologist, I have spent years researching which factors improve people’s health. That my search for the key to greater wellbeing leads me to something so seemingly simple and everyday as listening feels like a great gift. Looking at our findings, I wish for everyone to know the experience of being heard, and the practice of listening.

*Important note: what momo hört zu offers is not therapy or a therapeutic conversation. We don’t replace a psychologist, therapist or doctor. It’s an encounter between people, on equal footing. If we sense that professional help is needed, we gently bring the conversation to a close and pass on the phone numbers of the relevant social emergency services. We stay alongside until a good way forward has been found.
