We listen. To every story. To every joy. To every sorrow. To every person.
How? Since 20 October 2023, our ZUHÖRRAUM (an open space for listening) has stood at Stephansplatz 2, beside the small church of St. Stephan in Munich.
Before that, the ZUHÖRRAUM stood for more than three months between the architecture gallery (Blumenstraße 22) and Eataly. Over the summer months it moved to Isartorplatz, until it finally found its current home. The ZUHÖRRAUM. Open to everyone. A sheltered place for listening, where time, appreciation and togetherness are given freely. Free of charge, and easy to step into. Visitors are welcome to share whatever they wish from their lives.
What? Anything they feel like telling. Anything weighing on their heart. Anything that brings them joy.
Confidential and anonymous. We don't give advice. We listen without judgement. And in that, a real human connection can grow.
You're warmly invited to come by the ZUHÖRRAUM.
We're here for you Monday to Friday, 12–6 pm. We'd love to listen.
The idea of the ZUHÖRRAUM came to life as part of a design-build project. Four designs emerged from a one-semester process. Alongside the spatial 1:1 situation of listener and speaker, the students also explored listening in a wider social context, and from this developed the parameters for the actual design. Each of the four designs proposed that, through their temporary presence in a place, they could fulfil exactly this equalising and connecting role. The design by Josef Eglseder and Philipp Konrad was chosen by a jury to put this idea to the test, as a space built by hand.
The requirements were:
• less than 75 m³ in volume
• room for two people in conversation
• one coffee machine
• visibility <> a sense of shelter
• easy to move

Participants:
Anne Ambrosy, Max Donauer, Josef Eglseder, Moritz Götze, Philipp Konrad, Laura Lehle, Selina Möbius, Milena Müller, Luisa Durst (construction only)
Project lead:
Ferdinand Albrecht, Matthias Kestel

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved for this beautiful ZUHÖRRAUM.

*Important note: what momo hört zu offers is not therapy or a therapeutic conversation. We don't replace a psychologist, therapist or doctor. It's an encounter between people, on equal footing. If we sense that professional help is needed, we gently bring the conversation to a close and pass on the phone numbers of the relevant social emergency services. We stay alongside until a good way forward has been found.
